LOS FABELMAN Desde el viernes 22.
Nominada al Oscar a la mejor película en 2023, ‘Los Fabelman’ es un emotivo, inspirador y personal homenaje al cine con el que Steven Spielberg rememora su infancia y descubre al mundo como se convirtió en el icono del cine que es. A través del personaje del joven Sammy Fabelman, Spielberg relata de forma semiautobiográfica su ecosistema familiar y el nacimiento de su amor por el cine. Un arte que le sirvió para forjar su propia identidad, superar los baches de la vida y entender el mundo a su alrededor.
Con ‘Los Fabelman’ el compositor John Williams firma su colaboración cinematográfica número 29 con Spielberg, quien, además de dirigir la cinta, coescribe el guion junto al ganador del Premio Pulitzer, Tony Kushner.
Además de la nominación al Oscar a la mejor película, la cinta cuenta con seis nominaciones al Oscar más, dos Globos de Oro, una nominación a los BAFTA y el reconocimiento de haber sido considerada una de las mejores películas de 2022 según el American Film Institut.

ELVIS Desde el jueves 7.
Buz Luhrmann (‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘El gran Gatsby’) dirige este original y divertido biopic protagonizado por Austin Butler en la figura de Elvis Presley y Tom Hanks como su despreciable manager, Tom Parker. El director consigue con esta película transgredir, una vez más, las normas clásicas de los géneros cinematográficos.
La película de Luhrmann explora la vida y música de Elvis Presley a través del prisma de la complicada relación que mantenía con su manager, un vínculo que abarca más de 20 años de la carrera del artista, desde el ascenso de Presley a la fama hasta su declive.
La cinta -ambientada en el contexto de la revolución cultural y la madurez social en Estados Unidos- parte del hecho de que el cantante llegó a ser quien era por ser un blanco con una música influida por el góspel en un momento en el que la comunidad afroamericana luchaba por sus derechos en las calles del país.

MOMIAS Desde el viernes 1.
Aventuras, humor y amor en esta taquillera película española de animación dirigida por Juan Jesús García Galocha, director creativo de las dos primeras entregas de ‘Tadeo Jones’ y del aclamado corto de animación ‘Cuerdas’. Como explica García Galocha, ‘Momias’ «nos lleva a vivir una aventura donde el amor prevalece sobre todo lo demás… aunque todo lo demás es igual de emocionante».
La película comienza hace mucho, mucho tiempo, cuando el gran auriga Thut muere por las malas artes de algunos de sus contrincantes. Ahora «vive» en la secreta ciudad de las momias, dedicado a firmar autógrafos de 5 a 7. Sin embargo, su apacible mundo se viene abajo cuando el ave fénix lo señala como futuro marido de la princesa Nefer, quien está tan poco interesada en el matrimonio como el propio Thut. Por si fuera poco lío, un ambicioso arqueólogo está a punto de descubrir el secreto mundo subterráneo de las momias…

EL PILOTO Desde el viernes 29.
Gerard Butler se convierte en un piloto dispuesto a asumir cualquier riesgo por salvar a su tripulación en este trepidante thriller de acción con altas dosis de tensión, violencia y mucho ritmo. Cuando un avión es alcanzado por un rayo, el piloto Brodie Torrance, interpretado por Butler, deberá realizar un arriesgado aterrizaje para salvar a sus pasajeros y a la tripulación del vuelo. Aislados en una isla devastada por la guerra, se dará cuenta de que sobrevivir al aterrizaje ha sido solo el principio.
La cinta dirigida por el cineasta francés Jean-François Richet (‘Blood Father’) completa su reparto con caras como Mike Colter (‘Million Dollar Baby’), Daniella Pineda (‘Jurassic World: Dominion’), la modelo de Victoria’s Secret Kelly Gale o Tony Goldwyn (‘Ghost’).
LOS TRES MOSQUETEROS: D’ARTAGNAN Desde el viernes 15.
Primera entrega (la segunda es ‘Los tres mosqueteros: Milady’) de esta gran superproducción europea que adapta a la pantalla grande la novela de aventuras francesa más célebre de todos los tiempos.
D’Artagnan, Athos, Aramis, Porthos, el cardenal Richelieu y su espía Milady de Winter viven aventuras, romances y traiciones en esta apasionante historia de capa y espada protagonizada por Vincent Cassel, Eva Green, Romain Duris, Pio Marmaï y François Civil.
Con un presupuesto de más 72 millones de euros, la película ha recibido todo tipo de críticas elogiosas.
TÁR Desde el jueves 21.
Cate Blanchett protagoniza este drama psicológico nominado a seis premios Oscar en 2023, entre ellos a la mejor película y a la mejor actriz, en el que el director Todd Field (‘En la habitación’) explora los peligros del abuso de poder y la cultura de la cancelación situando a una mujer en el centro de mira.
Lydia Tár, una consagrada directora de orquesta, está a punto de grabar la sinfonía que consolidará su éxito; al mismo tiempo que empiezan a caer sobre ella las insinuaciones sobre sus posibles conductas sexuales ilícitas con sus subordinadas. Bajo esta premisa, Blanchett afirmó que la cinta es «una meditación sobre el poder y la naturaleza corruptiva del mismo», algo que no va asociado a ninguna identidad de género.
LA NOVIA DE AMÉRICA Desde el viernes 13.
El director Alfonso Albacete (‘Más que amor, frenesí’, ‘Sobreviviré’ o ‘Mentiras y gordas’), en esta ocasión sin David Menkes como colaborador, utiliza una anécdota real como premisa de esta disparatada y gamberra comedia coral protagonizada por Miren Ibarguren (‘Supernormal’) . Ana, una joven harta del amor, y su hermano Tono acaban de recibir la misma llamada, su padre se va a casar en México con una mujer 30 años menor que él que conoció por internet. ‘La novia de América’ es «una comedia sin prejuicios» que, como explica su director, utiliza el choque cultural para «lanzar mensajes de diversidad y tolerancia» desde el humor.
THE QUIET GIRL Desde el jueves 28.
Nominada al Oscar a la mejor película internacional en 2023, ‘The Quiet Girl’ es una historia cargada de belleza, sensibilidad y ternura en la que una joven niña descubre lo que es el cariño, la comprensión, la bondad humana y la empatía de la mano de una familia que no es la suya.
El primer largometraje de ficción del documentalista Colm Bairéad se centra en Cáit, una niña de nueve años que vive con su numerosa y disfuncional familia en la Irlanda rural de principio de la década de 1980. Cáit, tímida y de justas palabras, sufre a un mujeriego y borracho padre, así como, a una madre engañada que apenas se ocupa de ella. Un verano sus padres deciden enviarla a casa de uno de sus familiares. Allí, la joven descubre lo que es la bondad humana.
QUESO DE CABRA Y TÉ CON SAL (UNA HISTORIA DE MONGOLIA) Desde el martes 26.
La directora Byambasuren Davaa, nominada al Oscar 2005 al mejor documental por su filme ‘La historia del camello que llora’, se adentra en esta ocasión en la ficción de la mano de Amra, un niño de 11 años perteneciente a una familia nómada mongola, cuya pacífica vida se ve amenazada por las empresas mineras que excavan en busca de oro y devastan su tierra.
«Íntimo y arrollador a la vez, el magnífico drama de Byambasuren Davaa examina los rituales y las tradiciones de Mongolia cuando su propia existencia se ve amenazada» (The Guardian). Un retrato intimista, conmovedor y lleno de humanidad que refleja la triste realidad que viven muchos países en la que la vida de su población se ve amenazada por los intereses de empresas y gobiernos que miran hacia otro lado.
DIALOGANDO CON LA VIDA Desde el martes 12
El director, Christophe Honoré (‘Vivir deprisa, amar despacio’), se sumerge en su propia biografía para reconstruir la muerte de su padre cuando él todavía era un adolescente en este drama protagonizado por Paul Kircher, ganador de la Concha de plata al mejor actor en San Sebastián 2022, Juliette Binoche y Vicent Lacoste. Destrozado tras la muerte de su padre, el joven Lucas se muda a París junto a su hermano buscando huir de la realidad. Allí, Lucas comienza su autodescubrimiento y la resurrección de sus cenizas.
Vicent Lacoste, interpreta al hermano de Lucas -Honoré ya había trabajado con Lacoste en ‘Vivir deprisa, amar despacio’ o ‘Habitación 212’- mientras que Juliette Binoche (‘En un muelle de Normandía’, Oscar por ‘El paciente inglés’) interpreta la madre y el propio Honoré al padre. La desolación y la resurrección de un joven, el autodescubrimiento, la huida hacia delante, el miedo, el dolor por la pérdida, las malas decisiones… ‘Dialogando con la vida’ es una película llena de luces y sombras que transita por el duelo de una familia ante la pérdida de un ser querido.
LOS HIJOS DE OTROS Desde el miércoles 27
Virginie Efira (‘Benedetta’) se pone en la piel de Rachel, una mujer de 40 años a quien le encanta su vida tal y como es. Sin embargo, cuando se enamora de Ali, termina encariñándose de Leila, su hija de 4 años, con quien descubre su deseo de ser madre.
Dirigida por Rebecca Zlotowski (‘Planetarium’), la directora francesa retrata en ‘Los hijos de otros’ sus propios sentimientos sobre la maternidad para entregar una película que, como afirma la realizadora, «yo misma quería ver». Según Zlotowski,«se necesitan historias que vengan del consultorio de un ginecólogo, de cómo es una pareja en momentos de ovulación, de erotismo, de mujeres que no son rivales ni compiten entre sí».
‘Los hijos de otros’ estuvo nominada al León de oro en el Festival de Venecia de 2022 y se convirtió en la ganadora del premio al mejor montaje en el Festival de Sevilla de ese mismo año.
